Davis You
Cello
Davis You joined the San Francisco Symphony cello section in 2024. A Bay Area native, You began his cello studies with Irene Sharp and Jonathan Koh. He received his Bachelor of Music from the New England Conservatory, where he studied with Laurence Lesser and Paul Katz. He has performed at chamber festivals nationwide such as the Taos Chamber Music Festival, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and San Francisco International Piano Festival, and has collaborated with artists such as Miriam Fried, Paul Biss, and the Borromeo String Quartet.
He was a member of Quartet Luminera, which won the silver medal at the 2023 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. He continues to give regular chamber performances as part of the San Francisco Symphony’s chamber series and community outreach concerts.
Alongside his work with the symphony, Davis maintains a private cello studio in the Bay Area. His students have earned top positions in regional youth orchestras and recognition in competitions at both local and national levels. He coaches youth orchestras and chamber ensembles and in all settings is deeply committed to helping young musicians develop a lasting and personal connection to music
